A COLLECTION OF DREAMS
Wolwedans is more than a collection of camps: it is a collection of dreams. Its ethos lies in setting an example in sustainability and continually fulfilling its commitment to the conservation of the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
Visionary Albi Brückner created the NamibRand Nature Reserve in the mid-1980’s by buying 8 farms, dropping the fences, and so conserving the land and wildlife. In 1994, his son Stephan Brückner built Dune Camp on Wolwedans farm and so the Wolwedans Collection was born.
The WOLWEDANS WAY is a business philosophy based on 3 key pillars leading their decision making.
- ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ – ahead of the quest for profit.
- ‘Business in Balance’ – do what is good for people and the environment, ahead of leading with commercial success.
- ‘5C’s Sustainability’ – all actions are guided by the interconnectedness of Conservation, Commerce, Community, Culture and Consciousness.

The impact of your stay
Sustainability is not a side arm of Wolwedans, it is their heart and soul and who they are. Recognised by The Long Run as a Global Ecosphere Retreat, Wolwedans is committed to promoting an inclusive, holistic paradigm of conservation that enhances livelihoods and fosters intercultural dialogue.
During the Covid lockdown of 2020, Stephen Brückner used the time to establish The AridEden Project, underpinned by a philosophy of balancing people, planet and profit in everything they do. AridEden provides the framework and identity for the Wolwedans journey.
Every stay contributes through:
- Paying the Sustainability Levy of NAD 1 750 per adult (18 and older) and NAD 725 per child (under 18) per night, above the accommodation rates. This levy includes a NamibRand Nature Reserve Park Fee and the balance is allocated to the Wolwedans Foundation to drive its 5C’s Sustainability, as outlined through The AridEden Project.
- You are supporting a lodge that not only employs an all Namibian team but one that has its own Hospitality Training School, the Desert Academy, as well as a range of other skills development projects. Find out more via the Wolwedans Foundation website.
- Contributing to the conservation of the NamibRand Nature Reserve, a private nature reserve established to help protect and conserve the unique ecology and wildlife of the south-west Namib Desert.
- Desert Lodge is home to our hospitality training facility, that provides the practical experience portion of the Wolwedans Desert Academy. Some of the team there are students who are learning about the guest experience, they might make a mistake (or two) but this will be complemented by the biggest smiles and lots of enthusiasm.
- Every visit by a guest contributes to the AridEden Project, a practical framework for building more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism conservation economies.

NAMIBRAND NATURE RESERVE
Desert Lodge
Desert Lodge is perched on top of a dune plateau, overlooking panoramic vistas in all directions and capturing the beauty of the desert in a most memorable way.
The building style is a combination of wooden structures and canvas blinds, opening up to the desert beyond. The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building. Each of the ten spacious chalets with en-suite bathrooms has a private verandah and ‘Wolwedans chiller’, which connects you to vast stretches of untouched sand. Sleeping with your canvas blinds open is just like sleeping under the stars.

The Family Suite is a 2 bedroomed unit accommodating a maximum of 4 adults and 3 kids. This unit has a small private lounge and dining area plus outside bathrooms, a sleep-out deck and a two ‘Wolwedans Chillers’. Located only a short walk away from the main camp where meals are served and enjoyed. A private guide is also included.
