Legendary Expeditions

The impact of your stay

This is not about the camps alone, but equally the journey between. With Legendary Expeditions you explore remote and unspoilt regions with your private guide. From 4×4 drives and safari walks to hunting with the Hadzabe, dancing with the Datoga and following the migration, your expedition is underpinned by a philanthropic vision and the Friedkin Conservation Fund (FCF).

FCF is actively involved in supporting conservation and community development by working closely with the Wildlife Division of Tanzania and supporting anti-poaching operations, innovative community projects, and various research programs.

Every stay contributes through:

  • Staying at Mwiba Lodge or Mila Tented Camp and paying US$ 150 Mwiba Conservation Fee per person daily.
  • This fee contributes directly to conservation, habitat protection and anti-poaching management of the Mwiba Wildlife Reserve.
  • Staying here also directly contributes to the communities and local tribes who are stakeholders in the eco-tourism success of the reserve.
  • Interacting with the Da’toga and Hadza tribes makes a positive contribution and empowers the women through the Da’toga selling bracelets and crafts, and the Hadza women to gather honey, roots and bulbs.
  • Staying at the Migrational Camps and paying between US$ 142 and US$ 154 Serengeti National Park Fees.
  • These fees are essential for the park management of the 3,6 million acre Serengeti National Park.
  • A significant portion of all bednight revenue is reinvested back into the local indigenous cultures, communities, government and wildlife conservation efforts.

Migrational Camps

Following the herds, the Migration Camps – Nyasi & Songa – operate as 2 seasonal camps across 4 locations within the Serengeti. The classic design of the camps has been adapted to complement the environment allowing you to feel connected to your surrounds as you follow the ever-moving migration.
The two identical mobile camps, each with 8 en-suite tents and a family tent (2 en-suite rooms and a shared lounge) are pitched as a split camp whereby one side of the camp has 6 tents and the other side 2 tents and the family tent. Each half of the camp faces in a different direction and is fully contained with its own lounge and dining facility, using natural habitat to ensure maximum privacy at each camp. The smaller side with 2 tents and the family tent has the option to become a ‘Private Camp’. Every booking is allocated a private safari vehicle for game drives and are seated at separate dining tables for mealtimes.
Nyasi Migrational Camp. North / Lamai: 1 June to 15 October | South / Serengeti: 15 Dec – 31 March | Closed: April, May, 15 Oct – 14 Dec.
Songa Migrational Camp. North / Kogatende: 1 July to 15 November | South / Serengeti: 15 Dec – 31 March | Closed: April – June, 16 Nov – 14 Dec.
These are the planned dates for camp mobilisation and are subject to change. The camp follows the migratory route of the wildebeest and should the herds move earlier or later than expected, the camps may be mobilised accordingly.
