Wild Expeditions pioneering collective of owner-run safari camps and expeditions operating in remote parts of Africa.

These experiences are best suited to travellers who truly understand and value the concept of wild and immersive journeys. The luxury here is access itself, to extraordinary places and experiences encountered by only a few discerning travellers each year.

A rustic, traditional camp of eight canvas-walled units beneath cooling thatch, Camp Hwange overlooks one of the natural waterholes that make this part of Hwange National Park special. Located about 1 km from Camp Hwange, the exclusive-use Muddy Teak is nestled in the heart of a private concession area renowned for its rich wildlife and stunning views.

Camp Hwange & Muddy Teak have a strategic location, this private concession in the central part of Hwange lies between the rugged mopane woodlands and their kopjes to the north and the sandy soil teak forests to the south-west; its location on this open savannah ecotone means that game viewing is as diverse as its habitat types.

Aside from fantastic game viewing, especially in the drier months from April through to November, the camps offer an excellent guided experience with a strong emphasis on walking and tracking.

The future of Africa’s wildest places increasingly depends on conscious, intrepid travellers seeking deeply immersive journeys in remote landscapes like Hwange, alongside operators committed to conservation and connection to place.

We invite you to take a Wild Expedition.

Camp Hwange
7 Chalets + 1 Family Chalet

All eight rooms and the main area are oriented towards the waterhole and open plain. At the heart of the camp is the open-sided, thatched lounge and dining area with a campfire, where each day naturally begins and ends.

Four en-suite rooms lie on either side of this main area, each canvas-walled and kept cool in summer (and warm in winter) by their thatched roofs. One is a two-roomed family room with independent bathrooms. The spacing ensures privacy for each room with our obligatory guaze panels serving as windows to ensure both a cooling through draft as well as the ability to hear the sounds of the night. Whether it is the frogs at the waterhole, a lonely whooping Hyaena or the roars of the resident Lion pride we want you to hear, smell and feel Africa.

WHY HERE?

- Excellent guides and interpretive guiding, especially on foot.

The impact of your stay
IMPACT: High

Wild Expeditions operates in remote wilderness areas where tourism plays an important role in supporting conservation efforts and community engagement. In regions such as Hwange National Park, their presence is rooted in a long-term approach that values responsible access, partnership and contribution to protected landscapes.

Within Hwange, conservation challenges are closely linked to park management, research, and the relationship between surrounding communities and wildlife. Wild Expeditions recognises that meaningful support in this context comes through collaboration with established conservation organisations and education-focused initiatives.

Every stay contributes through:
  • Park fees and conservation levies included in the nightly rate, which support the ongoing management and operation of Hwange National Park, alongside annual concession fees paid for access to private areas within the park.
  • Support for independent research and conservation organisations operating within Hwange, including partnerships with groups such as Bhejane Trust, Hwange Lion Research and Painted Dog Conservation. Contributions to these organisations are enabled through guest stays at Camp Hwange and Muddy Teak.
  • Community and education initiatives through collaboration with Children in the Wilderness (CITW), an NGO focused on environmental education. Camp Hwange hosts children from surrounding communities, many of whom are visiting a national park for the first time, providing exposure to wildlife, conservation awareness and potential career pathways within ecotourism.

Through these combined efforts, Wild Expeditions supports a model of safari travel that contributes to protected area management, conservation research and environmental education, while maintaining a respectful presence within Hwange National Park.
